Staying Fit While Traveling
Like most seniors today, you have probably been working hard for most of your life, so when it comes time for you to retire, aren’t you ready to get the most out of it? The last thing most people think about when it comes to travel is their health. Unfortunately, every one of us has heard a sad story about someone becoming ill during a trip. This is and should be a major concern for seniors traveling today.
Air Flight and Car Travel
Flight attendants have long stressed the importance of doing little exercises while in flight to keep you loose. This is especially important to combat a condition known as DVT (deep-vein thrombosis). DVT comes from sitting in a small confined place for a long period of time without the benefit of free movement. After a significant amount of time spend immobile, blood clots form in the arteries. If these clots break free and enter into the bloodstream, they can cause heart attacks. The majority of these clots are small and harmless but why take a chance? DVT is also a common occurrence in car travel. The same concept applies; you generally don’t have enough room to move around. The next thing you know, you legs are tingling. When you feel this starting to happen it would be a good idea to stop the car and get out and walk for a while. So, the next time you are on a long car ride or flight, stretch your legs often, move your toes around and wiggle your fingers. Those few extra minutes in your day could eventually add years to your life.
