Senior Travel Saftey Tips

We live in an amazing country full of mountains, beaches, gorgeous forests, and natural wonders. And when it comes to picking that vacation spot that is perfect for you as a senior and your needs, there is a vast array of options. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that are not concerned with your well being or your safety while you travel. This is a sour fact of life that you can be prepared for if you follow a few simple steps.
When traveling around in a new city, it is always a good idea to have an updated map of the area you are in. Travel groups like the American Automobile Association (AAA) will provide members with these maps as part of their membership. Also, before you leave your place of lodging, it is a good idea to put all of your valuables in a safe. These are usually provided by hotels; if not, ask for any other security options available. Even though hotels seem very secure, thieves and other social deviants can find a way to get inside and steal your property.

Plot out a day plan or activity schedule for you and your family. That way, you can already have a general idea of the area that you will be traveling in. It is also a good idea to fuel up your car during daylight hours so you won’t be almost out of gas near an undesirable part of town. When you are out doing your sight-seeing, it is a good idea to not carry large amounts of cash. If a robber does not see your money, he is less likely to rob you. If he sees the cash, he now has a reason. If for some reason you encounter a problem, try to have a cell phone on hand and a can of mace. Most of the time you won't need these items but as they say, “Better safe than sorry.” You as a senior citizen have worked long and hard to enjoy this time in your life. Being prepared can make all the difference between a good trip and a bad one.
