Transportation Options for Senior Travelers The first step in getting the most out of your vacation is planning. By taking the time to plan properly for your trip, you will have the time to deal with any unforeseen problems that can arise. It is also good to give your loved ones an itinerary of your trip.
Travel Methods
Depending on your travel budget, there are a few different methods of travel that may be suited to your needs.
Airplanes
Travel by air is your quickest but most expensive option. It is is especially well-suited for travel across the country or to other continents.
Trains
The train is a wonderful yet often-neglected travel option. The train is a way to reconnect with the American countryside without the hassle of driving. Riding the train affords people the luxury of a nicely-paced trip. It is also a nice way to meet people and talk about their travels, make a new friend, and exchange some good conversation. Today's train fares are sometimes considerably less expensive than airplane fares. Amtrak also offers a senior citizen discount.
Buses
The bus is not a bad option if you going on relatively short to mid-distance trip. It is always a good idea to get out and stretch when ever in a long traveling situation. If nothing else, wiggle your toes.
Automobiles
The automobile, of course, is one of the most popular ways to travel around the United States. It is a good idea to travel more during the daytime. That way, you can see the sites and still travel safely during these hours. Avoid sleeping in your car at rest stops along the road. Hotels make a much better option. Remember to always get plenty of sleep before making a long drive the next day. An alert driver is the safest kind.
Enjoy your travels!
